Coming Face to Face…With Your Own Death

Coming face to face with your own death.

Come with your book club, your sisters, your friends, your husband.  You won’t want to miss this event that explores the meaning of life…and death. This book truly touched me.

“When Breath Becomes Air” is a #1 New York Times Best-Seller, that takes a powerful look at a stage IV lung cancer diagnosis through the eyes of a neurosurgeon. Dr. Paul Kalanithi was a successful neurosurgery resident at Stanford when he was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer. He died two years later at the age of 37, soon after his infant daughter was born. His critically acclaimed memoir has moved both the medical and literary worlds with its exploration of mortality and how coming face to face with your own death changes both nothing and everything.

Dr. Lucy Kalanithi, Paul’s wife wrote the beautiful epilogue to the book.  On April 6, Lucy will be at Overlook Medical Center‘s Bouras Auditorium to speak about the writing of “When Breath Becomes Air,” the power of literature to illuminate the human condition, and her husband’s compelling message about living a meaningful life.

She also reflects on her own experience, standing beside her husband and shepherding his book to publication after his death.

This engagement will be the seventh in a series of lectures on health and the public interest made possible by a generous gift from the Glasser Foundation and endowed through the Overlook Foundation.

Space is limited, so please reserve your seat by calling 908-522-5330 or emailing laura.parker@atlantichealth.org.
