25 Alternatives to Your New Year Resolution

We all know it to be true, resolutions don’t work. January 1st is no different than any other day in its ability to transform us, inspire change and break bad habits. Small, intentional new habits are the way to affect lasting change.

Here are a 25 simple ways to lay the foundation for a healthier, happier 2020. Pick a couple and stick with them. You will feel a sense of accomplishment and gain the confidence to look for more easy ways to improve your overall feeling of wellness. Don’t overthink it, just take a glance and choose 2 or 3 you think are doable for you.

1. Drink a glass of water before your first cup of coffee. Also read: Does Coffee Count as Water?

2. Don’t look for the closest parking spot.

3. Get a standing desk.

4. Skip two meals a week.

5. Don’t buy your favorite cookies or chips.

6. Download a mediation app.

7. Once a week, call instead of texting.

8. Put your phone down when you are having dinner.

9. Sit when you eat.

10. Use reusable grocery bags

11. Say “Thank You” each night before you fall asleep and first thing in the morning.

12. Have dinner as a family, even when it is hard.

15. Go to sleep 15 minutes earlier.

16. Intentionally listen more than you talk.

21. Do push-ups. Start small and build up.

22. Limit time on social media.

23. Stretch. 

24. Say no to things that don’t bring you joy or matter to someone else.

25. Be nicer to yourself.
