June 16 is Fresh Vegetable Day and June 17 is Eat Your Vegetables Day so this is a great time to remind you to embrace your veg. Research has shown time and again that those who consistently eat fruit and veggies daily are much more healthier than those who do not and have a significantly lower risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, certain cancers and becoming obese.

According to ChooseMyPlate.gov, adults should consume a minimum of 5 servings a day but ideally more is better. Consider filling half of your plate with veggies and consuming veggies at every meal and snack time. If you open the link above and scroll down to View Vegetable Food Gallery you can get a visual of a serving size for your veggie of choice.

To receive all the goodness veggies have to offer, from fiber to folic acid to potassium and even protein and cover your vitamin and mineral bases, eat a wide variety of types and colors of veggies. Click here for a Comprehensive List of Vegetable Nutrition Values.

And finally, click here for the “Dirty Dozen and Clean 15” list of produce that is better to buy organic (due to the pesticides contamination in regular farm practices) and those which are fine to buy non-organic.

So now you’re armed with all you need to Embrace your Veggies…Enjoy!
