10 Reasons to Exercise…Even if You Hate it.


“You can’t out-train crappy eating.”

This is a very true, somewhat depressing statement. What is the first thing everyone who wants to lose weight does? They join a gym. For the small percentage of people who actually then go to the gym, the results can be disappointing, discouraging them from continuing. Unfortunately, the weight doesn’t melt off when you step on the treadmill. But … there are so many other reasons to exercise, and focusing on these, instead of the number on the scale, can keep you motivated.

1. The heart is a muscle. Exercising will make it stronger. It will also lower blood pressure and cholesterol, all of these combining to make it much easier for your ticker to do its job.

2. Exercise increases blood flow to the brain and has been proven to keep you sharp and improve your memory.

3. Weight bearing exercise will strengthen your bones, warding off osteoporosis and decreasing risk for fractures.

4. The repetitiveness of exercise can be a form of mediation, invigorating your soul and improving your mood.

5. Exercise decreases anxiety and improves your ability to handle stressful situations.

6. As we age, we lose muscle mass. Exercise will keep you strong.

8. Walking, running or taking a class with a friend is a great way to catch up. It is also a great way to meet new people.

9. Getting into an exercise routine will inspire you to make other healthy lifestyle choices.

10. Exercise will reduce the risk of getting many types of cancer and it will increase the odds you will live longer.

Bottom Line: Exercise is really, really, really good for you!
