If it’s spring it must be time for the Friends of the Ridgewood Library’s annual Author Luncheon. Grab your book-loving friends and reserve a spot to see NY Times best-selling writer Nicole Krauss, author of History of Love, Great House and the recently released Forest Dark. Set for Wednesday, April 25 and held once again at Seasons in Washington Township, come gather for a great meal and hear a thought-provoking and captivating speaker.

Great House was as a finalist for the National Book Award in Fiction, History of Love is a book club favorite and her newest book Forest Dark is on The New York Times Notable Books of 2017 as well as one of Publishers Weekly’s Best Books of 2017. “Nicole Krauss is a dynamic speaker and will join a notable list of outstanding authors that have made this annual luncheon such a great way for Friends of the Ridgewood Library to raise money for our library’s programming,” says Paul McCarthy, president of Friends. Along with lunch, the author’s presentation and a question and answer session, the event will once again feature a silent auction packed with items donated by local vendors and supporters of the Library as well as a raffle.

Krauss’s newest book, Forest Dark, follows the lives of two characters on separate but transformational trips to Israel; Nicole is a young wife, mother and novelist and Jules, an elderly philanthropist who has given away all of his possessions in anticipation of his trip. By interlacing their journeys of self-realization in alternating chapters, we follow Nicole as she goes back to the place of her birth in order to deal with a troubled marriage and writer’s block, and Jules, drawn into a film project shot in the desert, which will result in life-changing consequences. Pulitzer Prize winning author Philip Roth says of Forest Dark: “A brilliant novel. I am full of admiration.” The New York Times raves: “Krauss’s work is illuminated by the warmth and delicacy of her prose.”
