While browsing for a new read, this novel in particular caught my eye with the USA Today review on the front cover, “Readers entranced by The Help will be equally riveted by Wench.”  So true, so true.  The author really created a visual that kept me glued to the pages, making this a quick yet engaging read.  The novel takes place just a tad before the Civil War in the free-territory of Ohio.  The setting is a summer retreat primarily for Southern White men and their enslaved mistresses.  Tragedy, triumph and love are all subjects experienced by the women characterized by Dolen Perkins-Valdez.
