5K Race, Bike Event, Fun Run for Kids and their Parents

This spring, it’s time to get outside and move, while benefitting others. Here are a few family fun runs and a bike event for our active families.

Susan Zabransky Hughes Memorial Run/Walk (Saddle River) On Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 8:30 a.m., rain or shine, this 5k takes place through picturesque Saddle River, and is primarily flat and fast. Post-run activities and refreshments for children and families will be provided on the grounds of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church on East Allendale Road in Saddle River. Awards will be distributed to top three overall and age-group winners. Youngest participants will receive a chocolate medal. Proceeds to benefit “Susan’s Suite”, a dedicated treatment suite for cancer patients in the soon to be renovated Emergency Trauma Department at Hackensack University Medical Center. $25 Pre-registration at  $30 registration on day of race. Contact Information- Paige Egan 917-902-3227, email address paige11201@yahoo.com

Go the Distance for Autism Bike Event (Paramus) will be held on Sunday, May 6 at Bergen Community College in Paramus. The event is a collaborative effort by four northern New Jersey schools for learners with autism. All funds raised from this event will benefit the four schools. This year’s event includes rides for cyclists of all levels. The 50 and 25 mile rides begin at 8:30am and 10:00am respectively, the Kids Ride begins at 10:00am, the 10 mile ride begins at 11:00am and the Family Ride starts at 11:30am. Bike route maps and a full description of the event are available at www.gtd4autism.org. The event is open to the public and riders can register individually or as a team. All registered riders receive entrance to the Family Fun area which includes food and beverage, entertainment, bounce houses, games and a Community Pavilion featuring local businesses and non-profit agencies.

The Fred d’Elia Memorial Day Ridgewood Run (Ridgewood) This ‘Family Day at the Races’ is entering its 35th year. Monday, May 28th. Registration begins April 1st — there is NO same day registration for the 5K. $29 for the 5K. $5-$15 for the 1-mile fun run. The 5K begins at 10:15. The fun run begins at noon. Arrive 30 minutes before your event and check in at the registration tent.
