Too Old… or Scared to Wear Skinny Jeans?

Two of my good friends- both with amazing bodies- have recently told me they are afraid to wear skinny jeans.  One said she is “too old,” (please! She is yet to have her 40th birthday) and the other said she is afraid of “looking like a prostitute” (I love her to death, but I’m not sure she could look like a prostitute even if she tried… which is a good thing.)  Both of them will look amazing in skinny’s but they say they are just not sure how to wear them.    It is absoultelty NOT a fashion faux pas to wear skinny jeans after 40, you just want to do it the right way.  Dress your skinny’s sophisticated- skip the tank top and sneakers to avoid looking like an overgrown teenager and pair them with more luxurious pieces such as a silk blouse and boots.  Make your skinny’s work for you with the fit and wash as well- many designers such as J Brand, and 7 For All Mankind are making mid-rise and high-rise skinny’s.  Choose these cuts instead of the low-rise, for a more age appropiate fit.  If you are in the market for your first pair of skinny jeans, play it safe and opt for dark denim or black.  Stay away from anything too trendy like ultra low-rise, overly distressed or torn, and – shutter to think- embellished with anything especially rhinestone or embroidery.
