Back To School… What Are Us Moms Going To Do?

When people start talking about back to school, I can’t help but think of that commercial (actually, now that I think about it I’m not even sure what the commercial is for — maybe Staples, or Office Max?!?) Anyway, it starts off by playing the Holiday song, It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year, as the father is joyfully gliding down the aisle riding on the back of a shopping cart smiling as he throws his arms up into the air, and school supplies into the cart.  All while the two kids are dragging their feet behind him–absolutely miserable, arms crossed, with sourpusses on their faces.  It makes me laugh every time I see it.  Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love my kids as well as the lazy days of summer spent with them, but my lack of facials, streaky self tanner, too much wine without enough sleep is starting to show.  I know that with back to school comes homework, a zillion practices and games, crazy schedules, and the daunting task of having to have food in the house to make lunches first thing in the morning, but it also comes with 6.5 hours of our fabulous children expanding their minds with knowledge while we can get back to our regular schedules of working out, catching up with friends over coffee, squeezing in a mani/pedi/facial/blow-out (depending on the day) before lunch with friends, and then maybe one errand/bit of work before we pick up our bundles of joy.  I’m not sure about you, but I think this transition from summer to school is going to go just fine… Ok, well… At least a girl can dream, right?

So, while you are in the back to school aisles for your kids, think about some fall essentials for yourself.

On my wishlist:

– one new fall jacket
– a new wrap or sweater to be worn over workout gear
– a new pair of daytime jeans
– a new winter white basic sweater or long-sleeved shirt

Notice the emphasis on “new”. I’ve got to get back to the store.
