It’s On: Family Game Night

Searching for the perfect game choice for your Family Game Night? Not a worry, we’ve got your answer! When I threw out this question, moms and dads came back with a fun mix of new favorites as well as true classics worth a second look.

At my house, some of our latest favorites are Spot It, Whoonu and the electronic banking version of Monopoly. What’s not to like about getting a credit card with $14 million+ on it to start out the game? Although as my nephew Sean said, “Monopoly can take a while to finish sometimes!” With both Spot It and Whoonu, rounds go fairly quick, allowing players to easily pop up for a moment, i.e. moms refilling the chip bowl.

Ajanta Kumar: We have a new game called Stomple from the Marbles Store at the Garden State Plaza that everyone loves.

Melissa Elliott: We love a board game called Ticket to Ride and actually heard about it from a college student who plays this game up at school. It is based on all the train routes in Europe and you build routes, etc. We play with all ages. Great fun! We started with the European board game and just bought the American rail version.

Janice Mazzo: We like Hedbanz in which you wear a headband with a word on it and you ask questions to figure out what your word is.

Karen Latimer: My family likes Pathwords because we can play by ourselves or as a team. No competition required, which is sometimes nice in a big family. We are all working together toward the same goal. Also, we get to select the difficulty level, making it fun for everyone.

Dorothy Duffy: Our favorites are Sequence and Blokus.

Todd Hoffman: We love Clue and Sorry.

Amy Nidds: Some of the best games are Apples to Apples, Guesstures and Catch Phrase. We play all of them with the kids. Guesstures and Catch Phrase are great fun with just adults too. Host a game night. Really fun!

Lisa Sammataro Kim: Our favorites are Taboo, Scattergories, Liebrary, Apples to Apples and Set. Bananagrams is really fun too!

Amy Bachmann: What’s Your Like? is a fun game for both kids and adults.

Emily Doscher: Let’s not forget about an awesome puzzle! We have also played Seaopoly – a twist on Monopoly – or Would You Rather? with its hilarious challenges. And Boogle too! They make the cubes softer now so they don’t make as much noise when shaking them letters up.

Nick Johnson: We like a card game called Set and are big on the portability of UNO. UNO has been key for long restaurant waits.

Peter Gilbert: Nothing like a big game of UNO!

Mike Brady: A little outside the box of traditional board games, but one of my favorites is Jenga.

Our area has lots of good toy stores to choose from. Check out Learning Express at 111 East Ridgewood Avenue in Ridgewood, Marbles, The Brain Store in at Garden State Plaza, Tons of Toys at 315 Franklin Avenue in Wyckoff or Toys ‘R Us at the Fashion Center in Paramus.
