Essential Oils: Fad or Fab?

I definitely consider myself a skeptic and was unsure of how essential oils would benefit me.  I am of the mindset that when you have a problem, you should go to the doctor and get prescribed medication to alleviate the issue.  However, about a year ago I was struck with an immense, chronic pain in my neck that would not go away.   Every doctor who saw me came to the same conclusion, there was nothing wrong with me.  The pain was excruciating.  It was sharp and constant and nothing made me feel better.

I suffered through my work day and by the time I would come home, I was in tears and could barely complete tasks that I had taken for granted before.  This also affected everyone around me.  I struggled to put on a brave face for my kids and powered through activities like picking them up from school or cooking dinner.  I burdened my husband by leaning on him for most of the bigger tasks in the house.  At my worst I had started to feel hopeless as if this was going to be a permanent fixture in my life.

Miraculously I was introduced to a doctor who saw what was wrong with me.  My neck was not aligned properly and so it was pressing on a nerve which was causing all the pain.  The cure was not so easy.  I had to go for injections directly in my neck that could only be done with me sedated and in the hospital.  As happy as I was to finally have some relief, I still struggled with the pain of each injection and the period in between injections when the pain would resume.

One day, in between these injections, when I was home silently suffering and counting the days before my next injection, I found a bottle of an essential oil that a close friend of mine had given me to try.  As a last resort, I opened the bottle, rubbed some on my neck and waited with low expectations.  Within minutes the pain began dissipating.  It had been weeks since my last injection had worn off.  The one that I used was DoTerra Past Tense .  This bottle has not left my side since that first day.  I even ordered a bunch more just in case I ran out!  I have since cancelled the appointment for the following injection and actually feel better each day.  There are so many types of oils and so many blends, that while I can’t say that everyone will have the same results that I had, I can recommend that you stay patient.  You may need to try a few different kinds to get the one that fits best for you, which is why it’s great to have someone you trust to help you along the way.  I was lucky enough to have my good friend, Lisa Robles around me with a lot of experience working with essential oils.   My conclusion: Essential Oils are FAB!
