Celebrating the Garden State Through Art

Through June 4, 2016
Jersey Strong“Too often we forget about what is right out our window, or just down the street (okay, Parkway),” explains Curator Danielle Ann Millican.
 Jersey Strong
is a mixed-media show celebrating the Garden State with works by five Jersey born-and-bred photographers. compliment original 18
th and 19th century works on paper, illustrating historical landmarks, natural history subjects, and everyday events.  Anchored by a series of important 19th Century maps by the renowned American cartographer, Julius Bien, we explore the coastlines, mountains, valleys, and streams.

Our historical collection of maps includes Revolutionary War operations in Monmouth, Trenton, Princeton and Trenton.  Our vast horticultural collection includes an original work on violets, the state flower, from 1613.  Apples, pears, chickens, and fish round out the exhibit.  These works, among the most important works of academia, include many everyday images found in this great state.

This show is possible through the hard work of the WAMMC (Women’s Association of Morris Medical Center).  The WAMMC has a dedicated committee member, June Meehan, who selects various art shows throughout the year for both MMC and ARI (Atlantic Rehabilitation Institute).  The pieces are all for sale through the Gift Shop and a portion of the proceeds goes to MMC.

The 5 photographers in the show:
Gina Bellando is a successful business woman, award winning photographer, and a pinball wizard.

John DeChiara, Director of Engineering weekdays, carries a rod, reel, and camera most every weekend.

Rick Hauser sees things “OverHead”, at “EyeLevel”, and “UnderFoot” as titled in his one-man shows.

Gerald Hilden, working in the photographic medium, is experiencing a new phase in his artistic odyssey.

Suzanne Kuziola, homemaker and mother of 3, turned her talent for crafts into an eye for photography.

Danielle Ann Millican (Curator) building world class collections in art and design on 3 continents, has boundless energy and enthusiasm.

Former Art Director for Home Magazine, Heather Leahy Zachariah, left her career in publishing after baby number number one. She now works from home as a freelance graphic designer and a chauffeur to her 3 busy kids. "Working on TipsFromTown has been a wonderful outlet for me. It renewed my love of publishing where I can design colorful, enticing pages online and allows me to share the things I love about being a mom." Heather grew up in Shaker Heights, Ohio, a place that still is near and dear to her. " After living in Brooklyn for 18 years and studying Graphic Design at Pratt Institute, she now lives in the Jersey burbs. "I love living so close to NYC, but in my heart, I'm an Ohio girl."
