Can Acupuncture Help What’s Ailing You?

For many ailments, when Western medicine fails, we search for alternatives. Although there’s nothing new about acupuncture–it’s been practiced for over 2000 years–it might be the new alternative you’re looking for. Often, there’s more than one way to heal; it’s just anout finding the one that works for you.

We asked Rachel Lopez, owner of Bergen County Acupuncture, for some insight on what acupuncture is and who it can benefit.

What is Acupuncture?
At the most simplistic level, rachel explained, “acupuncture is inserting fine needles into certain points of the body, and there are hundreds of them.” is said to flow through meridians, or pathways, in the human body. These meridiens and energy flows are accessible through 350 acupuncture points in the body.

Traditional Chinese medicine explains that health is the result of a harmonious balance of the complementary extremes of “yin” and “yang” of the life force known as “qi.” Illness is said to be the consequence of an imbalance of the forces.

Medical News Today reports that, “Qi is said to flow through meridians, or pathways, in the human body. These meridiens and energy flows are accessible through 350 acupuncture points in the body.”

How Many Needles Will Be Used?
Rachel explained that somewhere between 10 and 20 needles are usually used but that every acupuncturist has his or her own specific styles or techniques.
