Oscar’s 2012 Fashion Report

What an amazing award show Sunday night. I don’t even know where to begin. I guess I’ll start at the red carpet.  But, before I get into best/worst dressed, I want to make it clear that I could only wish to have any of these designers dresses in my closet, and if I did they would need to use about 5 times as much fabric as they did for any celeb listed here.   I would also  have to starve myself and live at the gym before I could ever dream about walking on the red carpet.  There– now I feel a little better for giving my opinion on who didn’t look good in what. Many of Tinseltown’s A-list actresses opted for strapless gowns and minimal jewelry. While some  looked stunning in metallic glamour, white was the hottest trend.  The most talked about dress the day after? Rooney Mara’s  white Givenchy couture gown with a plunging neckline, fitted bodice and train made of illet layers.  In stark contrast was her black hair with severe thick bangs, and strong red lip.  The dress had exaggerated details at the bust line- almost like some sort of origami protruding from her bosom.  It was fascinating, yet odd– somewhat enticing, but not exactly pretty.

Not many women can pull off a cape, but then there is Gwyneth Paltrow.  She wore an all white Tom Ford fitted gown with a white cape on her shoulders with a thick diamond cuff and ring. Her style was so simple but she looked so chic. Mila Jovovich looked like old hollywood glamour in a white bejeweled one shoulder gown by Elie Saab Couture.

Emma Stone was able to pull off the color of her red Giambattista Valli gown (which is not easy for a red head to do) but not the enormous bow on her shoulder– it was more like the bow was wearing Emma Stone.  Michelle Williams looked beautiful in her coral Louis Vuitton strapless peplum tiered number– I just wish it was missing the one big ruffle at her waist.

Best dressed goes to Angelina Jolie and JLo– despite her “wardrobe malfunction.”  For those of you who didn’t see it –JLo showed a bit to much boob in her Zuhair Murad plunging silver cut-out gown. Leave it to Angelina to go out on a limb– and a rather shapely one at that!  Angie was fierce in her black strapless Atelier Versace gown with a thigh-high split and red lips.  Not to be outdone by JLo’s nipple, Angelina let her leg do all the talking.  Which by the way, (her leg) now has it’s own twitter account!

Busy Phillips, Jane Seymour, and Judy Greer wind up on the worst-dressed list.  From Busy’s aqua earrings to the lace dress to the fuchsia heels– all these pieces are fab separately but together they’re a hot mess.   Jane Seymour has an amazing body, but her plunging red sequined gown with “chevron stripes” did it no justice.  I don’t even know what to say about Judy Greer’s silver and black stripped gown… So, I’ll just leave it at that.
