Drive-In Dining in the Heights

Next time it’s 10pm and you’re in your pjs craving a shake and fries, leave on those pjs and jump in the car and make a trip to Swenson’s Drive-In. You never have to get out of your car. Just keep your headlights on and wait for one of their curb-runners (and they really do run!) to come to your car and take your order–no matter what the weather. The whole experience feels like something from another time.

Started in 1934 by Wesley “Pop” Swenson, Swensons has been serving up their all beef “hamburgs” and “cheeseburgs” as they call them for 84 years! For those with a big appetite, try their special Galley Boy, a double cheeseburg topped 2 special sauces and topped with an olive. Besides burgers, they serve hotdog, sandwiches, crispy fries, onion rings, and have 18 flavors of milkshakes. And everyone loves their speciality drinks: the Ohio, the California, and the Florida.

And what’s best of all? When every other place is closed, Swenson’s is still open! They stay open until 1am! 1:30 am on Friday and Saturday.

It renewed my love of publishing where I can design colorful, enticing pages online and allows me to share the things I love about being a mom." Heather grew up in Shaker Heights, Ohio, a place that still is near and dear to her. " After living in Brooklyn for 18 years and studying Graphic Design at Pratt Institute, she now lives in the Jersey burbs. "I love living so close to NYC, but in my heart, I'm an Ohio girl."
