Escape for a Ladies’ Lunch to the Sanctuary

There’s a little gem in South Euclid–maybe you’ve passed it on Green Road and wondered what lies behind the stone wall. When you pull off that busy road and into The Sanctuary on Green, it feels like you’ve entered a magical spot. Beautiful green trees, sculptures and wind chimes decorate the grounds around a little white house. During the 19th and early 20th century, the property was an artichoke farm with 25 acres of land. Now the 140 year old barn is the place where many of the beautiful creations that you’ll find inside the white house are made by owner and sculptor, Norbert Koehn. The gift shop is packed to the brim with beautiful, handmade items

There couldn’t be a more lovely spot for lunch! Last time I was there, they were pulling an Asparagus and Tomato Quiche out of the oven that was almost too beautiful to eat. You can make a lunch out of a few of their Bavarian canapés topped with brie and mint jelly, hummus and olives or chicken sale, to name a few. They also serve salads (they sell their home-made dressing in their store.) Their soups are all vegan and gluten-free.They grow some of their produce and herbs in their garden and their meat is all hormone/antibiotic/nitrate-free. Leave room for dessert and coffee. They have a long list of homemade sweets including their Bavarian Sunken Cherry Kuchen or their Lemon Chiffon Cake.

The Sanctuary, 1936 South Green, South Euclid, OH. Open Wednesday through Saturday for lunch from 11:30am to 2pm and for tea and coffee from 2 -3pm.
