Beachwood Place

beachwoodmallMy cousin, her husband, and their two small girls were at Beachwood Place last week when they cleared the mall out and put it in lock down. It gave us all quite a scare. Unfortunately, social media blew the whole incident up into something bigger than it was. Rumors started that there were gun shots fired. People panicked–who wouldn’t, began to flee the mall with their families. We’re all a little on edge this season with news coverage of possible attacks.

What did take place was an altercation and that has led to a new policy being implemented at Beachwood Place. Mall visitors under the age of 17 must be accompanied by a parent or supervising adult over 21 after 5:00 PM on Fridays and Saturdays.

Having a tween on my own, as much as it seems like a bit of a pain to have to walk around the mall with her and her friends, I think it’s a good policy. What starts as a small group of kids can quickly turn into a large group and things can get out of hand quickly. My daughter and her friends are on better behavior when I’m with them. I’ll look at it as “together time” and use it as an opportunity to get to know her and her friends a little better.
