Dialog in the Dark

My children (ages 9 through 13) and I visited the Dialog in the Dark exhibit at South Street Seaport in NYC this weekend, and we all found the experience to be very powerful. Blind or visually impaired individuals guide you through the “sites of NYC” — while in complete darkness. Essentially, you experience NYC as though you were blind, using a walking stick to tap your way through the exhibit which includes a simulated Central Park, a subway station, a grocery store and Times Square. Our guide, Pat, was wonderful – she was welcoming, informative, and so willing to share her own personal experiences about living as a blind person in NYC. My kids were amazed and left with a new perspective on the challenges of other peoples’ lives. Highly recommended for ages 9 and up.
