Why Do We Pig Out on Game Day

The Superbowl Game Day is my excuse to eat whatever “junk” I want. Many of us  are crying with belly aches the next day, but oh….was it good.  By Tuesday, you want be right back on track with your New Year’s Resolution of healthy eating (that’s my goal). I saw the funniest article in the Wall Street Journal, February 2, 2012 written by Valerie Bauerlein “Carrots Vie for a Spot on Game Day”, because it really did summarize America and our favorite Superbowl experiences. There were stats noted in the article that on Superbowl Sunday, American’s will consume 71.4 million lbs of avecados, 100 million lbs of chicken wings, 43.2 million lbs of Tortilla Chips, 111 million gallons of beer and a lot of carrots, the list goes on. I love this American tradition of a Superbowl.  It’s fun, it’s good competitive football to watch, it’s an excuse for a party, and for many of us it’s a little break in our rigid routines to eat some good party food! We just have to remind ourselves, everything in moderation, then maybe the belly aches will be less next year. Go Giants!
