Happiness and Coffee

A study completed by the Archives of Internal Medicine found that women who drank two or three cups of coffee a day were 15 % less likely to develop depression than those who drank one cup less. (Health.com  Jan/Feb 2012).  Now you don't need an excuse to get that  3pm Latte!

Exercise While Watching TV????

Did you know that if you are watching TV and stood up and stepped in place during the commercials, you could burn and extra 200-350 calories a day.  A typical half-hour television show has eight to twelve minutes of commercials and the average American spends 3-5 hours a day watching TV.

Kids and Hearing Loss

Here's an interesting fact:  Based on findings from Journal of American Medical Association, there was a published study which found 1 in 5 American teenagers now has mild hearing loss. These numbers increased in recent years with adolescents 12-19 years of age and jumped up 19.5% in 2005-2006 from 14.5% in 1988-1994.  Why?

Do this 15-20 reps two or three times a week for stronger abs. Could see results as soon as possible.  You know I am dropping to the floor to get this done, especially after April vacation break!

Nothing Better than a Low Calorie Good Tasting BEER

There is nothing like a cold beer on a hot day, but is it worth all those calories? Next time you are reaching into an icy cooler consider this -- Beck's Premier Light has 64 calories, 4g carbs, 2.3% alcohol. Bud Light has 110 calories, 4g carbs, 4.2% alcohol.  My husband says light beer is like drinking water, but I love those calorie saving facts!

Laughter is the best medicine. In a series of studies (presented by Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences), a good laugh triggers the brain to release endorphins, your body's natural painkillers. So when you have an ache, seek out a funny friend, TV show or movie to give you a good chuckle. Who doesn't like to laugh, it might be just what you needed to feel better.

Have a Foot Cramp – Trick to Get Rid of it

If you get a cramp in your foot or even if your feet are sore, take your shoes off and place a tennis or golf ball underneath the sole of your foot. Have the bottom of your foot roll all over the ball. The smaller the ball, the deeper the massage.  My source for this one was all my friends who are runners or who have suffered from plantar faciatis.  They are right, as your feet will feel like a million bucks when you are done!

Our family loves pizza night. Sometimes this is my "go to" dinner for my children when we have busy schedules. I have always thought it to be a healthy dinner, especially when we add the salad. Guess what? That's not always the case.
