Sometimes Small Efforts Create Big Change

Sofia Harriet TubmanI just learned that the inspiration behind putting Harriet Tubman on the $20 came from a 9 year-old girl named Sofia. Sofia wondered why there weren’t any women on our paper currency and took the initiative to write a letter to President Obama with a few suggestions. The Treasury Department ended up taking two of her suggestions: Eleanor Roosevelt and Harriet Tubman. Sofia said, “Some kids think, ‘I’m a kid, I can’t vote so I can’t make a change. But if you can think of a way you can do something–even if it’s small–it can turn into something huge.” Well said, Sofia! We love this girl. Thank you for inspiring us and our children.
