In the aftermath of Sandy, you may be wondering if you or your family members will qualify for federal assistance. You can apply online at disasterassistance.gov. Apply via a smartphone at m.fema.gov. Or apply by phone by calling (800) 621-3362 or TTY (800) 462-7585.  There is a brief, anonymous questionnnaire which will direct  you toward many federal programs that provide assistance. Within the FEMA site is information about the Individuals and Household Program (IHP). The IHP overview states their purpose is to “provide money and services to people in the disaster area when losses are not covered by insurance and property has been damaged or destroyed.”
