Fabric Stores

Pulling together fabrics can really inspire “the feel” of a house. Don’t be afraid to play around with different options until you get a combination that inspires you. Start by finding a small print, a larger print, some stripes, checks, polka dots, light backgrounds, colored backgrounds, solids…whatever, and mix them all together to see what combination feels the best! Things don’t have to “match” to look good together. Have fun with it!

Start with fabric stores that carry high quality decorator and upholstery weight fabrics. Here is a list of some in our area:

Milton Decorator Fabrics 338 Essex St Lodi, NJ 07644 (201) 843-8899. Milton Fabrics is in Lodi, behind the Wholesale Liquidators/Home Depot complex on Rt. 17. Bolts are downstairs, books are upstairs. They carry a beautiful line of silks, their own fabrics, and designer fabric books. One stop shopping for your whole house, at reasonable prices.

NJ Decorating Exchange  3 New Bridge Rd, River Edge, NJ 07661 (201) 342-0110. The NJ Decorating Exchange showcases thousands of products from over 150 showrooms.  It’s in River Edge (but very close to the Riverside Square Mall in Hackensack). Be aware that this store carries very high end fabrics, like Kelly Wearstler’s Gordian Weave, which retails for over $200 per yard. You can get most fabrics that the D&D building carries here.

Fabric Factory Outlet (973) 567-3518, 390 Fairfield Rd, Fairfield, NJ 07004. Fabric Factory Outlet’s location is in a strip mall close to Rt 46.  The interior is pretty bare-bones, and the fabric bolts are all just laying on end in rows, organized (loosely) by type, color. But you can walk away with great bargains if you are willing to look through the mass of fabric bolts. Staff is not that helpful, but the deals are great.

Decorators Fabric Outlet 118 New Jersey 17, Upper Saddle River, NJ 07458 (201) 760-0300 . What you see is what you get. Staff is not very helpful, but some decent fabric on bolts.

Calico Corners  465 North Franklin Turnpike  Ramsey, NJ 07446 (201) 934-7706. I have often times gone into the Calico Corners store just to gather inspiration for projects, or get that eye candy that sometimes only beautiful textiles can give. It’s a beautiful store, and the sales are great. (There is a 20% off sale this week).
