What Does it Mean if Our Furry Friend Sees his Shadow?

We had a little debate in pour carpool today about what it means if Punxsutawney Phil of Pennsylvania sees his shadow. I don’t know why I forget what I’m hoping for every year! I think we all confuse a sunny day with meaning that spring is on its way. In fact, on a sunny day, when a groundhog sees his shadow, he’s so scared by it that he goes scurrying back into his hole: a sign of six more weeks of winter. A cloudy will produce no shadow encouraging the groundhog to stay above ground and meaning spring is on its way. So let’s pray for clouds.

And of course, tomorrow, I will be watching one of my favorite movies, Groundhog Day!
